Sub par, to put it kindly
Why the Wild East DVD company decided that this particular spaghetti western was worth a DVD release in North America, I can't say for certain. Maybe it was because American Guy Madison was one of the actors in it, but any fans of Madison will likely be very disappointed by how he's used here. He doesn't first show up until more than a third of the movie has passed, and he doesn't get to speak until half the movie has gone by. To add insult to injury, his character really doesn't get to do that much. It's possible the movie could have still worked despite all this, but for the most part the movie comes across as an amateur effort. It looks and feels really cheap, and the feel of the movie is cold and passionless. The bad script makes everything unfold at a really slow pace. That is, when the story makes sense, since there are some really unclear and confusing portions throughout. (Just try to understand the first part of the movie!) This is one Euro western that really gives the genre a bad name.

Spy thriller,French style.
Does it deserve such a low rating?Frankly,no.There were ,in the wake of James Bond,so many dismal spy thrillers that you've got to be kind to "peau d'espion".Anyway,it's not James Bond style:no gadgets,no high budget.The plot might repel some,since it remains almost indecipherable till the scene between Jourdan and Berger in the car at night.And it's an hour before it shows up.But ,although implausible,-like 99% of the spy thrillers anyway-the story makes sense and features good actors:handsome Louis Jourdan,the French lover par excellence (he did a lot of work in Hollywood) ,gorgeous sexy Senta Berger,veterans Bernard Blier and Edmond O'Brien.Sometimes looks like a poor man's "torn curtain" if you take China instead of USSR.It's a far cry from it,but ,once again ,it's passably entertaining stuff.
A rather unpleasant scene nevertheless:a very unfriendly look at long-haired boys ;and they said they were all hippies!

And the buyers won't give unless they see the merchandise first.

Funny, but uneven
As Jerry Lewis was winding down in his career as a box office star he did this film in Great Britain where he got to co-star with Terry-Thomas. Lewis plays a mercurial entrepreneur of sorts whose schemes seem to go awry all the time. For one thing unabashed con man Terry-Thomas is constantly bamboozling him. But when wife Jacqueline Pearce finally is ready to leave him once and for all, Lewis has need of his nemesis and the contacts he has to win her back.
He'll have to go some because after he turns their home into what he thinks is a grand idea, a combination discotheque and Chinese Restaurant in swinging London of the Sixties that settles his hash. But Lewis has a scheme whereby he steals the plans for a new type oil driller from Pearce's boyfriend Nicholas Parsons and he needs Terry-Thomas to make the contacts for illegal buyers.
Don't Raise The Bridge Lower The River had a pretty good plot premise, but somehow Lewis and Terry-Thomas never quite meshed together in their comedy styles. It's like both were in different films. In fact the comedy itself is clearly British in origin with Lewis brought in to insure some American box office.
One good thing about the film is the debut of Patricia Routledge as the mentor of some Girl Guides which is the British equivalent of the Girl Scouts. When she gets loaded and sets a romantic eye on Jerry it gets the funniest it does get.

An excellent movie
This is an excellent movie showing the harsh realities of life.The movie on the whole belongs to Ashok Kumar,who gives an excellent performance in the role of a father whose children leave him when hard time comes.Sunil Dutt gives a bravo performance in the role of an adopted son who stands by his father when his real children leave him.This really shows his versatility.Nutan also gives a good performance in the role of Sunil Dutt's wife.However the reason why it cannot be given 10 is its music,which is not appealing at all.As far as storyline and direction is concerned,one cannot find any flaw in the movie.

colourful Shakespeare
Shakespeare's bawdy comedy was perhaps the perfect vehicle for the Burtons four years into their real-life stormy marriage. Although Liz Taylor had no experience of playing ‘the bard' she is actually entertaining as Kate, that fiery girl who has no intention of becoming any man's plaything or possession. Richard Burton is on surer ground as Petruchio and doesn't disappoint, this is a rip-roaring performance and one of his best.
In Zeffirelli's cast we also see Michael Hordern, Cyril Cusack, Natasha Pyne (as Kate's sister Bianca), and Michael York (making his film debut as Bianca's suitor). The action can drag a bit when away from the leads (who always did tend to swamp other players in their movies), but the wit and mischief of the original play shines through. My only quibble would be with Kate's final speech. Interesting that Taylor plays it this way, but my guess is that it isn't the end of the bumpy ride for these two!

Neri a dull moment in this one
Johnny Yuma sure is smug. I think that's what might put people off this film a bit (cos it sure ain't Rosalba Neri). Johnny's just inherited a ranch from his uncle, who's just died from sudden bullet to the back of the head, courtesy of Neri and her brother. They know Yuma's on his way, so they arrange for an ageing gunslinger to come and do the business on Yuma too.
Yuma's lightning fast with a pistol, however, and blasts his way through enough bad guys to populate a small African country. His got a Mexican sidekick too, and I was fairly surprised at the sudden change in tone halfway through the film, as both Yuma and his sidekick play the film for laughs, so when the bad guys start doing stuff like executing Mexican folk for no reason and at one point beating a child to death (!), I was thinking that perhaps they were making up this film as they went along. They also give Yuma a good beating at one point too, but it only temporarily takes that stupid smug grin off his face.
Rosalba Neri, as usual, is lush and great. She manipulates every man in the film, including Yuma (who thinks he's got her sussed out, but he's wrong). She's the best thing about the film and greatly helps where actor Mark Damon (Yuma) just yucks it up at every given opportunity. This is an overly violent western that's well worth a watch, especially the epic gun fight at the end and the way over the top killing of one of the bad guys – a bit of a jaw dropper, that bit.

Great Sixties styling
'A belles dents' (= French for something like 'voracious') offers us a pretty flat story, that doesn't need any further exploration.
Much stronger is this film's picturing: set in a very, very mid-Sixties style, it shows at times some quite original scenes. Complete with a touch of fashion, as was fashionable in those days. Surely warming the heart of everyone around at the time.
Female lead Mireille Darc always easily adapts to fashion, by the way. Thus adding an extra 10% to her performance. In fact, many of her films state in their credits that 'miss Darc was clothed by ......', followed by the name of a famous lady's fashion designer.

A DELIGHT
I am not sure why some of the people disliked the film so much. The musical score by the Sherman Brothers is first class, the casting excellent, and the story moving. It seems to me those who review films like this in the negative really can't sit down and be entertained for a few hours. One doesn't always need a deep movie....a person can watch this film and feel good when it's over, and to me, that's what film is best at.
I just watched for the 6th time the dvd of the roadshow edition, and it is much better than the edited version. The ending was too abrupt before, and now we have not only an extra song, but a much better climax, that of a grand musical.
Leslie Ann Warren and John Davidson make their screen debut, and both are perfectly cast. The soundtrack on the dvd has been restored and sounds wonderful, especially in scenes with an orchestra, and the picture quality is very good for the period.
The best thing about this film is the score of the wonderful Sherman Brothers. Songs like FORTUOSITY,ARE WE DANCING, I'LL ALWAYS BE IRISH, DETROIT, NO DILLY DALLY, THERE ARE THOSE are much under-rated. This is an excellent original musical score.
Highly recommend for kids, families, and grown ups with a child still within.

Tommy Kirk a Go-Go!!!
This weird flick, from the man who brought us the THE BLOB and DINOSAURUS (both of which are referenced), is a bizarre mix of sex film, bedroom farce and exploitation fare, similar to but more successful than an Albert Zugmsith sex fantasy like THE PRIVATE LIVES OF ADAM AND EVE. This zany flick pulls out every trick in the 60s sex-comedy book, including overstated characters, crude camera tricks, goofy music, silent film parodies, gay sidekicks, super-real women and super-cad men, obsessions with drugs, rock music and psychotherapy. Cherub-faced Tommy Kirk, fresh from being ousted by Uncle Walt, has a strong presence in this film, and one could see him forging a new career as a comic actor, if he hadn't stumbled into badfilm quicksand. Sexy Anne Helm is primarily window-dressing, but that's fine. Wacky French leading man Jacques Bergerac (the sinister magician in the misogynist frightfest THE HYPNOTIC EYE) still can't speak English worth a darn, and watching him murder all his lines is both painful and exhilarating. And Henny Youngman has a cameo as a nasty jerk! Amongst the weirdness: slow-motion, fast-motion and freeze-frame scenes; cutesy narrative titles ala BATMAN; fantasy dream sequences which renenact Mother Goose rhymes with sexual subtext; seeing Bergerac dressed as the Big bad Wolf; seeing a man in drag as a Go-Go-Girl(!); hearing Kirk sing the excruciating title song. And its all filmed on location at the (highly plugged) Shoreham Towers Resort in Hollywood! One of the oddest and most lovable of the myriad mid-60s sex comedies.

Angelica-Brenda-Esperanza-Domitila, she is so devilish...
I've seen it three times...and I can still smell the freshness of this movie's original screenplay....
What I most like of it is that you can feel the joy of making this film. Angelica Maria is brilliant, portraying a complex but superficial character and at the same time being irreverent and innocent...
The movie touches some issues that might be a little bit modern and different for this period time in Mexico, but it does it well...you know, it was 1968, the year that Mexico's youth cinema lost its innocence...

A well done Japanese story at it's time.
Taro the Dragon Boy is an animated movie taken place in ancient times. Back when Zen art was one of the few art hobbies in Japan and rice was like gold to the people.
In a small village, lived Taro a lazy boy who doesn't do work or help his own grandmother. He likes to eat and wrestle with the animals in the woods. One day he wrestles with the long nose wizard who granted him the strength of a hundred men. Which made Taro thrilled, but he was told to only use it to help others in need. Taro accepted that, and now becomes a better help to others around him.
One day Taro wondered about the scales on the side of his body. His grandmother tells him that he's not like the other boys because,Taro was born half dragon. His mother was cursed as a dragon when giving birth she had to live North because of her image of a dragon.
Taro now knows what he must do is go on a quest to find his mother. And he will help others in need and make new friends on the way too.
Taro the Dragon Boy is something different for an old school anime. It's very well animated and has a great use of Zen like backgrounds. Even though the original trailer said it's based off of a kids story. There are plenty of inappropriate parts in the movie. Including small amounts of violence and brief nudity of a boy's pelvis and a woman's breasts.
Just to know, the rating system in Japan is different from here. Cause a film like this would receive PG-13 in America. Since I recommend this film for teens or those who are mature enough to see brief nudity in a movie. I suggest watching it yourself and see if it's OK to let a kid watch it.
Other than that I highly recommend it to all time anime lovers.

His new identity does not enable him to reintegrate into society after all. A subplot is inserted in fragments. A good-natured young woman, the right side of whose face is disfigured, has been hurt by others' inquisitive eyes and insults, and has been shunned by men.
She asks her older brother, the only man who understands her pain and solitude, to make love to her, hiding from him the intent of killing herself after then.

Review :
A flawless character study.
A brutal commentary on self-image and the way that appearances can change the attitude and ideals of a person that is one of the best films I've ever seen. The way that Okuyama changes throughout the film is incredible. He starts off as a brutally wounded man, who is afraid to go out in public due to his horrible disfigurement. He realizes how important looks are and all he wants is a new face so that he can blend back into society and be with his wife again. There's no desire to be attractive or important, he just wants to be normal. But once he gets his new face, his attractive appearance turns him into a completely different man. He buys flashy clothes and walks around with an attitude of superiority and importance in a world where he is really just a stranger. The film does a remarkable job of showing just how important appearance truly is, even if you think you can look beyond it. This is shown through Okuyama's wife, who pretends like she loves him even though he is horribly disfigured, but she ends up refusing his sexual advances due to it. Teshigahara uses bleak tones and minimalist sets as a way to show the isolation that society creates do to it's one-dimensional view of forming opinions on people merely due to appearance. These settings also do a great job of focusing the viewer on the characters instead of flashy visuals and elaborate sets.
I thought that the Psychiatrist was also a very complex character as he becomes more and more interested in his experiment with Okuyama's new face and less interested in Okuyama himself. He becomes greedy and selfish in his desire to mass produce the masks, but Okuyama's greed compels him to reject the Psychiatrist's wishes and look out merely for himself. This greed makes him a very dangerous man who is hanging on the edge of a breakdown through most of the film, until an encounter with his wife finally sets him off. It's the Psychiatrist's greed, though, that ends up being the true horror of the film. Okuyama realizes the dangerous monster that this mask has turned him into, and does the only thing he can think of to stop him from harming the world. It's the Psychiatrist's greed, though, that unleashes the beast of Okuyama into the world which leads to the abrupt and shattering finale. The paradox of a physical monster versus a psychological monster is absolutely sensational. In the beginning he is deformed on the outside, but as he becomes normal and beautiful on the outside, he ends up being a terrible monster internally. There is only one thing that I can really complain about, and that is the entire story of the "Facially scarred young woman". All of her scenes felt really out of place and added nothing to the fantastic commentary and intelligence of the plot. Everything with her was just unnecessary, but this was just a mere chink in the grand masterpiece that the film embodies as a whole.

The cowboy's brother, however, needing money to pay off debts, trades the horse, and tries to sneak the horse out of his pen. The horse, however, senses something is wrong and struggles against being taken, and in the process accidentally kills the brother. In addition, the horse and his rider are separated when the cowboy joins the army, and the horse winds up being sold to perform on the rodeo circuit. When the cowboy returns from military service, he sets out to find his beloved horse.

This movie is an Ok movie, but get real here, it was supposed to take place during WWII but the women are dressed like it was the sixties, Fess Parker is good and the scenery is to die for, and the horse is wonderful, but the rest is not believable.

Kill Or Die
A stranger enters the saloon. He wears a poncho and reminds me, presumably not accidentally, of Clint Eastwood in "Fistful of Dollars". He goes past several dangerous gunmen, looks the barkeeper in the eye and then - asks if he's allowed to play a little tune on his violin, please? You're right, this isn't exactly repeating what you've seen in a hundred other westerns before. "Kill Or Die" is a well scripted, intelligent, but little known Italian western. The director handles matters a bit conservative, probably preferring American westerns of the 1950s to the Corbuccian close-up ugliness that was en vogue in 1967. Robert Mark plays the hero, Slovenian actor Andrea Bosic plays a very professional sheriff who is cautiously keeping an eye on all suspects, and Gordon Mitchell has a typical guest appearance as a killer in black, devoted to his job ("Where would you like to be buried?") and using the trusted maniacal grin. Thumbs up!

Diana Millay makes this film one of the best!
It is some years since I saw this film but I still remember it vividly.I rate it much higher than all the other Tarzan films from the late forties to the present day.Mike Henry is adequate as Tarzan and Manuel Padilla Jr. is very natural in his role(he was later to play a similar role as Jai in the "Tarzan" television series of the sixties.)The supporting cast are fine too and the scenery is magnificent.Best of all however is the casting of Diana Millay as Ann.Combining beauty and brains this talented actress makes the lovely doctor she plays one of the most memorable heroines in any "Tarzan" film.
