Review :

Groovy 1960s Tarzan adventure with a dash of James Bond thrown in.

Ex-L.A. Rams linebacker Mike Henry makes his debut as Tarzan in this 1960s adventure. His arrival in Mexico wearing a suit and tie and carrying a briefcase is quite jarring, as is his subsequent "James Bond style" gunfight. But, not to fear, this is just to show us that this Tarzan is handy with modern weapons and is at ease in any environment. He does go into the jungle(in his loincloth)accompanied by a couple of wild animals and this is where the film gets interesting. He has to find the legendary Valley of Gold and protect its citizens from greedy villain Vinaro(David Opatashu) and his well organized(not to mention armed-to-the-teeth) army. The story is a little hokey at times, and seeing Tarzan use guns, grenades and a tank is a little hard to take, but overall the characterizations are good and the Mexican scenery is nothing short of spectacular(especially the Aztec pyramid city).Opetashu is perfect as the smooth, slick villain who sends his enemies exploding wristwatches. Henry is a little serious as Tarzan but he does excel in the action sequences. On the whole a groovy movie experience( jazzy musical score and all).

A free-wheeling comedy, Zur Sache Schaetzchen chronicles a day in the life of Martin, a witty yet lazy songwriter who'd rather not get out of bed. During the opening sequence, Martin watches a break-in on the other side of the street. In the morning, his friend Henry forces him to report it to the police, yet Martin gets bored with the cops and flees. The two of them spent the rest of the day escaping the law, in the Munich zoo and a public bath, were Martin meets Barbara. Block, the record company executive, needs Martin's new song lyrics right away, and Martin, who continually cranks out mad random remarks, comes up with a ridiculous sailor song. In the end, Martin's playful- ness collides with the authority the police represents. The movie is certainly not plot based; it draws its superior humor from one-liners and the hilarious, carefree insanity of its protagonist.

A Movie That Simply Won't Age (Unlike Uschi Glas)

To contradict an earlier user comment, this movie is to me pretty much the opposite of "tedious avant-garde". I mean it's avant-garde in the good sense -- innovative but without foot-stepping some dogma that has been decreed by the Cahiers du cinéma -- and it certainly isn't tedious. Spils and Enke (the director and the male hero of the movie, who made this movie as a real-life couple) have done an exceptional, almost documentarian, job of capturing the mood of the times by condensing it into several outstanding characters.

If you have become used to the established Hollywood version of "The Sixties", where it's the Fifties in one scene, and then, bang!, the Sixties, cue "Turn! Turn! Turn!" from The Byrds and roll out the flowery shirts and nappy hairdos, then you're in for a surprise. It's the revolution, all right, but our heroes wear long-sleeved buttoned shirts, properly combed hair, the Vietnam war seems to be a hundred years in the offing, and the banjo-whistely soundtrack would have made Jimi Hendrix run for his tour bus.

Munich-Schwabing, where most of this movie was shot, had been Germany's political hotbed for some years, and in 1967 "the action" had just moved on to other cities. You can smell a whiff of the eternal Bavarian revolutionary credo in the air: "A bissl was geht allerwei!" -- which may be instantly congenial but is, unfortunately, completely untranslatable.

By the way, my favorite scenes are when the different characters enter the elevator and meet its inhabitant, an obscure studenty character who apparently lives there, and spends his time reading, writing, drinking coffee and smoking. Slightly embarrassed and nervous glances are exchanged, no explanation is ever given.

a wonderful red convertible

I don't know what the circumstances were under which Lenzi took the helm of this movie but the fact that he didn't use his own name says something. I'm guessing he did this at the last moment for cash and had no say in the script and even then I'm not sure why he bothered. Yoko Tani is the best thing in this and she has a couple of weak cat fights. That I give this boring so called spy tale anything is down to the way it looked and that we glimpsed several cities and there was the glimpse of a wonderful red convertible at one point. Uncharismatic lead, maybe he thought if he was to appear British, he should appear as bland as possible, who knows? Who even cares and why am I writing about this 90 minutes of wasted time? Just in the remote chance that someone can find and apply that poster!

Better hold onto your head...

The plot centers around the cast of a Grand Guginol theatre group.Guginol refers to bloody & horrific explotative plays. The troupe is lead by the cold & cruel Darvas.(Darvas is wonderfully played by Christopher Lee).Darvas thinks nothing of ridiculing & humiliating his cast to get exactly what he wants. Seemingly he has no soul and no regard for human emotions other than acting them out.

A series of vampiric murders is tied in with the theatre group. Is Darvas more than just a Svengali? Is he a vampire? Without giving too much away cannibalism is the driving force behind the murders.Who is the killer stalking the cast?

This clocks in at above average. There are plenty of red herrings but the cast plays it gamely.Everyone has secrets to hide, some more terrible than others. The ending is a bit of a twist. You could do worse than to watch this one.

The Not-Quite-Magnificent Seven

When his entire workforce (and his little dog!) is massacred by land- grabbing badman Fernando Sancho, fancy-pants lawyer/mine-owner Sean Flynn is schooled in the tough-guy arts by his surviving foreman and the foreman's rowdy former Army buddies.

Despite a terminally low budget and some extreme silliness, there's some mild fun to be had here, including a furniture-busting bar-room brawl, no doubt inspired by the one in Dodge City, which starred Flynn's famous dad. Sancho is always entertaining, even though he always plays the same character in just about everything he's in.

It would appear that the entire music budget was spent on a snappy (though pretty bad!) theme song, with the rest of the score being some pretty obvious library music, which lends to the crackpot nature of the film.

After watching Flynn here, it's easy to see why his career didn't take off. Unfortunately, his career as an adventurer was equally as short- lived.

Harpiscord in a Turkish village film ???? :)))

before i watched, I had not expected such a gripping and fascinating film, i think its because we all (Turks) are used to watching funny village films with full of comedy where we burst into laugh even one kills another but this film shows us the dark side of village people with their great will to stay alive while trying to get the water (or any other) they need for their districts. usually village people (still, but especially in 1960s) are supposed to be uneducated and carrying gun with them in case there's an attack from other village people, in that case we should not be criticizing why the man does not agree to give water to all his neighbours, its very normal if we consider not everyone has the same brain cells, that is as normal as why there was world wars before. We cannot ask why for this film and for these times because simply there are no rules and the most brave with a gun in hand may grab all and dominate all. I have 2 things in mind, the musics are very interesting, because if there is no action you hear traditional Turkish tunes, with "saz" (a stringed Turkish instrument) but when there is action, you hear something like Bach with harpiscord, that is realllyyy interesting for me to hear this instrument in a Turkish Village film :)) the second thing is that was it necessary to kill those animals ? i think no, the director (metin erksan) could have made it possible easily if he wanted to. Anyway, its a must watch film, not only because it won the first golden bear from Turkey, but, also because probably it deserved. you might like the film very much or you might hate i don't know, but you will not get bored that's a guarantee... (try the new edited version in u-tube, its really great and as if it was shot 10 years ago)

Review :

Unbelievably cheap and bizarre from the abrupt and jarring opening credits on....

This jaw-droppingly odd and obscure softcore crime film was on a double-feature cassette with "Axe" and that's how I saw it. It starts off with the most jarring set of opening credits ever. Basically, a booming male voice shouts over a black screen "A Scream in the Streets!" then it abruptly cuts to the Fastest Scrolling Titles Ever superimposed over footage of an unconvincing drag queen killing someone (1970's police show music raging in the background). The film settles down a bit after this into something resembling a story, although I can't remember what it is. My only memory is that it involved a massage parlor and lots of sex scenes (one, at least, verging on hardcore). The men were the ugliest beasts I've ever seen with their clothes off. They couldn't have found more hideous men for this film. Towards the end, the ludicrous drag queen from the opening credits shows up again and implausibly stalks a park while going completely unnoticed. Then something happens and the film ends.... For fans of runny color and grainy cinematography only.
