Gordon Mitchell is great, but...
I have seen my share of cheap spaghetti run-off-the-mill western movies, and you could do worse than this one. The story is about this tough and cool guy who earns his money by outwitting cardshapers and tricksters - and not infrequently shooting them and their comrades later. During the movie, he develops from a selfish and egocentric loner to a hero for the good cause, who fights against a band of thugs. So you have your stereotypic plot, I guess. The movie involves quite a lot of shooting (body count around 30), but never graphic violence. However, the hero likes to shoot his opponents through their head, a somewhat strange and original trait. I cannot comment on the cinematography, because I saw the old Italian EUREKA-tape that is so horribly pan-and-scanned the like I have never ever seen before - a SHAME on them!! (Plus: the audio hopelessly oversteered, nearly unbearable. Avoid this tape like the pest.) The only thing that saved the movie (a little) for me was the presence of Gordon Mitchell: Ho-wow, was he cool always, and still, you rarely get him as the leading role like in this picture. (For Femi Benussi fans: she does not get much time on screen ... the movie would have needed more women.) The final shootout is quite worthwhile, but the movie drags in the middle section. Only for people who want to see Gordon Mitchell in a title role and die-hard genre aficionados.
