In the Olden Tymes, Count Regula is drawn and quartered for killing twelve virgins in his dungeon torture chamber. Thirty-five years later, he comes back to seek revenge on the daughter of his intended thirteenth victim and the son of his prosecutor in order to attain immortal life.
Unreal & surreal...
Next to "The Whip and the Body", this has got to be Lee's weirdest movie.
Lee plays Count Regula which is a very fitting name since he "regularly" frequents the local village & steals away young girls to his castle. He tortures them & uses their blood for his "life elixir". His final victim manages to escape to inform the local authorities and he is executed for his crimes (check out how its done). He manages to come back years later to exact his revenge on the descendants of his last victim & the judge/magistrate that sentenced him to death.
Among the actors you've got to check out is the guy who portrays the Count's butler/servant. He's really wild. In some scenes, he actually steals the scenes from Lee!This guy takes the phrase "loyal servant" to a whole new level! If the average household of today had a madman like him in service, we'd all be in trouble!
Lex Barker is the Count's adversary/good guy here. Sometimes Lex acts as if he's sleep-walking through his scenes. His voice also never seems to change its tone. The other performers are good.
The locales are incredible. I believe this film was shot in Germany.Very beautiful & peaceful but don't be alarmed horror fans. You will love the scenery around the Count's castle. Can you picture a countryside littered with dead bodies everywhere? You will once you've seen this movie.
For those of you that love a little ham in your horror, this one's for you! Its very hard to find in mainstream video stores so you may want to check the ones that cater to specialized genres. It will be worth the search.

Filmed on Fire Island, this two reel, 70 minute Warhol film covers the activities of the "Dial A Hustler" service, as an older man seeks a young hustler for a companion.
Certainly not for everyone but amusing
The first sequence is considerably the better of the two. The middle-aged queen who owns the house on Fire Island is fairly entertaining. People like him were still around ten years after the movie was made. Indeed: The whole thing is very prescient. (Not that this is a surprise with Andy Warhol.) There have been numerous plays, movies, and television shows with plots that are cleaned-up versions of this part of the film: The older man, his paid-for date, the jealous neighbor, the female neighbor who wants to get in on the action.
The premise is brilliant, too: As we hear the primary characters in dialog, what we actually see is the young man he's renting lying on the beach, whittling. The waves, the whittling ... It's not anywhere as long as some of Warhol's other movies but it's focused on a simple task, repeated.
The second part is about the guy and the neighbor. They are in the bathroom. It's kind of like soft-core porn. I see less of Warhol's art here. And it's less entertaining.

Julie Kohler is prevented from suicide by her mother. She leaves the town. She will track down, charm and kill five men who do not know her. What is her goal ? What is her purpose ?
Moreau's show
Interesting take on Hitchcock territory, although it lacks the suspense and capacity to involve the viewer as The Master's films always did. The true wonder here is Jeanne Moreau, as cool as a cucumber, going about her revenge business with clockwork accuracy, exuding class and talent equivalent to five of today's stars. Bernard Herrman's passionate score seems slightly out of place against the film's emotional detachment, and most of the time things fall just a little bit too perfectly in place, but overall, this is a satisfying film, of interest to genre fans.

During the Japanese invasion of the Philippines, an assorted group of refugees, including an American soldier, an Army nurse, a priest and a group of local children, try to make their getaway aboard a rattletrap, creaky bus.
i was an extra in this movie
i was stationed at clark ab philippines in the air force at the time, they took 35 of us to use as extras in the film. it was a great experience getting to meet and work with the actors and also got to meet katherine ross during the three days we were there. we were portrayed as the prisoners of war in the first part of the movie. i have a copy of the movie on VHS, just recently made a copy for a doug mcclure fan in perth Australia..i was 20 years old at the time... great time a long time ago..this was filmed in south luzon out in the middle of nowhere, we slept on old army cots in a thatch hut. they had a party for us every nite we were there with the actors being our host. our trip from clark to the location and back was kinda hairy as we were on a phillipine air force c47 and landed on a grass strip in the middle of a palm forest..the take off (short strip) was interesting also barely missing the tops of the palm trees..lots of san miguel beer also..good times in our younger days.....kenny smith

When Miss Vicki's father dies, she becomes the world's greatest philanthropist. Unfortunately, she is flat broke! Her loyal butler, Claude Fitzwilliam, leads the household staff to rob from various businesses by charging goods to various wealthy people and misdirecting the shipments, all to keep Miss Vicki's standard of living. After Fitzwilly's mother died Miss Vicki helped raise him and he loves her like a mother and would do anything for her.
A great caper-comedy with a fine cast
Fitzwilly is one of the great caper-comedies from the 60's with a fine cast of outstanding character actors. You may not recognize names like John McGiver, John Fiedler, or Noam Pitlik; but, you probably know their faces. The great comedies of the 50's, 60's and 70's were filled by actors like these who, although not well known to the public, were well known amongst their peers. They give consistently good performances in a variety of roles. I knew Pitlik's name mostly from the credits of the "Barney Miller" tv series, but I've seen him on dozens of tv shows and movies from the 60's and 70's. It's these types of performers who are often missing from today's comedies. Too often, the film is built entirely around the lead actors, without gifted character actors to flesh out the scenes. It's these character ensembles that separate many of the classic comedies from the star vehicles of today.
Dick Van Dyke is wonderful as the scheming, yet lovable Fitzwilly and he is matched by the beautiful and bright Barbara Feldon. I had a huge crush on her as a child, dating from her role as "99" on "Get Smart." She exudes warmth, charm, intelligence, and a sense of fun. Together, they make a great couple. Van Dyke's film career is often hit-or-miss, but, this is definitely a hit.
As a side note to a previous review, this film was not produced by the Disney Studios. I assume the confusion is based on Van Dyke's many previous Disney movies. As far as morality goes, the people who were being hurt by the scams were mainly faceless corporations; an easy target for the general public to forgive. The Robin Hoods of the world are generally forgiven their larcenies as serving a greater good. Since it is established that Miss Vickie is very generous with her money, we can forgive the robbing-the-rich because it does, mostly, end up with the poor. Anyone who has ever grumbled about store prices is likely to forgive someone who "sticks it" to the companies who "rob" their customers. Yes, it's not that simple in the real world; but, this is a movie, after all.

Sergio Corona
The actor Sergio Corona who works in this film, is not the Mexican actor referred in the link. Sergio Corona, is an Argentinian actor with a long experience in theatrical works. He started his career in the Nuevo Teatro group, founded in 1950 by Alejandra Boero y Pedro Asquini, with others prestigious actors Héctor Alterio, Onofre Lovero, Carlos Gandolfo, Enrique Pinti, Walter Soubrié, Jorge Mayor. He worked for many years in Teatro General San Martín, in theater plays like "Galileo Galilei" by Bertolt Brecht, directed by Jaime Kogan in 1984. "Six Characters in Search of an Author" by Pirandello, directed by Jorge Lavelli in 1998. "The Burlator Of Sevilla" by Tirso De Molina, directed by Adolfo Marsillach. Etc.

Judoka Marc Saint-Clair tries to save the world from nuclear disaster fighting Chinese and Russians.
Abysmal
It was long ago.It was a time when,in the wake of James Bond and his phenomenal (and deserved) success ,France was searching for its spy:they tried "OSS 117" (Kervin Matthews, then Frederick Stafford)-and that OSS might come back to work pretty soon, played by Jean Dujardin-,"Coplan" -who ,to be honest had begun his career in the movies before Bond, and many many others whose names I forgot.
Marc Sinclair was one of them .Marc Briand ,who portrays him was not an actor but a judoka -the title is no misnomer- whose career was short-lived.Marilu Tolo plays the love interest and she has a ridiculous scene where she is supposed to be drunk but fails totally to convince.
I met one of my pals soon after seeing it: "completely silly" he said.

Sid Caesar plays a bumbling gopher to mob boss Robert Ryan who discovers a large theft of mob money. His bookkeeper is killed shortly before he can reveal the thief.
Mediocre Macabre
This late-period William Castle film is one of his pallid attempts at comedy. It's amiable, yet mediocre in its delivery. Sid Caesar (during one of the lesser parts of his career) plays the scapegoat for Robert Ryan's gang of hoods. Looking at the cast of this film, as well as the original publicity material, it's obvious that Castle was trying to make his own version of "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". In addition to Caesar, there is also Dom Deluise, Kay Medford, Godfrey Cambridge, Marty Ingels, and Richard Pryor in his first film. Arlene Golonka is also present as the ditzy young dancer in the ridiculous feather get-ups.
The main problem with this film, is that the two main actors are totally unlikable. Ryan is unnecessarily mean to Caesar, and Caesar in turn, is too much of a wuss. The other actors all seem so oblivious to what's happening...like they are all doing their own stand-up routines instead of furthering the story. The script is OK, I think Castle just didn't know how to direct comedy.
On the plus side, though, this film has a very catchy theme song, composed by Vic Mizzy, and a funny sequence where a woman tries talking to a mannequin at a bus stop. It's a slight step up from Castle's "The Spirit is Willing", but that's not saying very much.

This story is based on facts taken from authenticated newspaper files. What truly motivated Ted Andrews is not clearly known although a childhood filled with depression, hate for his mother, and a lonely adult life seeded with migraine headaches was a possible start. Through the use of his telephone and a high powered telescope he terrorized his neighborhood. He peered into the private lives of people who never dreamed he was watching and what he saw only heightened his desire for perversion. Finally he became obsessed with one woman, a woman of dignity and station, of wealth and security. His plan - step by step was to degrade her, to bring her down to his level of existence, and to make her an animal. He convinces her that he will kill her ten year old son if she doesn't cooperate with him. As a result she agrees to perform for him before his telescope. He later forces her to meet him at a motel where he completes his act of degradation. The ending is as shocking as the opening.
Outstanding Indie!
When I saw this movie in 1968, it was in one of those cavernous old-time movie houses on 42nd Street in NYC--an area known as "The Deuce." The beautiful black and white photography, the nudity, the violence and some outstanding performances made this an unforgettable experience. Seeing a movie like this on a real movie screen made all the difference in conveying its power and beauty, rather than watching this on a small TV screen. Virginia Gordon was a real real stand-out with her classy looks but sensual face. The story line, too, was dynamic and it's a tragedy that many of these "soft-core" independent films have been lumped together as "garbage." Just take a look at the fabulous "Scream of the Butterfly," that's become a cult classic because of its outstanding black and white photography, story, director and casting.

"The actual life of real people… went on as usual"
Well, consider me astonished! Part Two of Sergei Bondarchuk's epic adaptation of "War and Peace" contains not a single gruesome war-time death, and yet I think I enjoyed it more than the previous instalment. 'Voyna i mir II: Natasha Rostova (1966)' almost entirely follows the exploits of the title character Natasha Rostova (Lyudmila Savelyeva), the adolescent daughter of a countess. Napoleon has signed a treaty with Russia, and thoughts of war have momentarily drifted from the minds of its inhabitants, who now turn their attention towards the equally-tragic themes of love, friendship, hatred and passion.

Nino Culotta is an Italian immigrant who arrived in Australia with the promise of a job as a journalist on his cousin's magazine, only to find that when he gets there the magazine's folded, the cousins done a runner & the money his cousin sent for the fare was borrowed from the daughter of the boss of a local construction firm. So Nino tries to get a job & finishes up ... laying bricks. Nino works hard & makes friends with lots of locals, Nino & Kay argue a lot, Nino & Kay fall in love ... Kay takes Nino to meet 'Daddy' but daddy hates journalists, immigrants and bricklayers (he's now BOSS of a construction firm). Nino starts to win him over with his charm & determination to marry Kay.
"Great Big Country, won't you come and play..."
'THEY'RE A WEIRD MOB' tells the story of an Italian's migration to Australia during the 1960's and his effort to adapt to this unusual breed of Englishmen living on the opposite side of the world that he soon comes to love.
The film is one of few Australian films made in the 1960's, and therefore given its subject matter, one of the most important time capsules of that era. 'THEY'RE A WEIRD MOB' was also probably the first Australian film made with a realistic eye to international distribution, not only because much of the movie seems to delight in explaining and translating many examples of Aussie lingo, but because it takes delight in simply showing Australians being Australians – and "them being a weird bloody bunch!" Technically, it is well-made movie and the acting quite decent. I was actually surprised by the number of shots achieved with hand-held cameras and steady-cams.

Barcelona, 1967. Hans Fromm, a German-born architect, lives an well-ordered everyday life.
The observation game, the Nazis, Barcelona
MINOR SPOILERS This is an unique, highly interesting movie which reminds you of more famous titles like Antonioni's "Blow Up", Coppola's "The Conversation" or Polanski's "Death and the Maiden". And, believe me, it stands its ground among them. It is about a group of hired killers or foreign agents (it is never exactly explained who they are) who observe a former SS man. Their boss (or employer) is a Holocaust survivor who wants the man to be killed. But he insists he has to gain absolute certainty that the observed person really is the man who decades earlier was responsible for his suffering and the murder of members of his family. The search for this certainty, or rather his uncertainty, becomes an obsession with him, and the narrative gradually shifts from the classic action plot to an increasingly absurd and surrealistic tone. The ending is a sad, anticlimactic showdown in an alienating setting. It suits the movie very well.
Worth watching also for good location shots of Barcelona, where all the action takes place. The town was not the hip place it is known to be nowadays when the movie was made. Barcelona also has is dark past and can generate depressing moods one probably would not expect at first sight. This movie shows it plainly.
